Celebrate the first annual National School Picture Day!

Picking out the perfect outfit. Making sure you have an awesome hairstyle. Smiling your best smile. Everyone has memories of school Picture Day, and finally there is a national holiday to celebrate the big hair, missing teeth and questionable fashion choices. Plus, with special sweepstakes and a fun partnership with celebrity Danielle Jonas, you're not going to want to miss National School Picture Day the second Thursday in September.

“I have the best memories from school picture day as a kid. Now with my oldest daughter starting kindergarten and my youngest daughter enrolling in a few years, I’ll be able to capture memories during every stage of their childhood, which is why I’m proud to support Lifetouch’s first-ever National School Picture Day,” said Danielle Jonas, jewelry designer and owner of Moments by Danielle Jonas and mother of two. “School pictures are an iconic tradition, so I’m excited to help kick off the school year for students and their families in a really special way.”

Picture Day documents milestones and captures moments parents and kids won't soon forget. These images become an important collection that show a child's growth from wide-eyed kindergartner to proud senior. It's a tradition that grandparents and parents remember from their childhood, and when it's time to have their own little ones go in front of the camera, it brings a deep sense of joy.

This joy and the tradition shared across generations is the inspiration for National School Picture Day, recognized as an official holiday starting in 2019 by the registrar of National Day Calendar.

How to celebrate National School Picture Day

Celebrate by sharing your favorite, most adorable, most awkward school pictures (past and present) on Facebook and Instagram. Use the hashtags #nationalschoolpictureday #lifetouch #frameitall

Starting September 12, head to lifetouch.com/sweeptakes to enter your school or your child’s school to be one of three schools this year to win free digital school pictures from Lifetouch! Shutterfly, a partner of Lifetouch, is upping the ante by providing the winners with free products for their school as well. How cool is that?

Mark your calendars and save the date. Picture Day is always a momentous occasion for families. Now that National School Picture Day is an official holiday, it's an even more memorable time.

Picture Day: A tradition with a rich history

For over 80 years, Lifetouch has been taking school pictures for millions of children annually in the United States and Canada. The photography specialists are proud to capture smiling faces from preschool through high school graduation, as well as sports, special events, seniors and yearbooks. By graduation, children will have a complete collection of their K-12 school pictures, which become cherished keepsakes for families nationwide.

Why is National School Picture Day in the second week of September? Not only is it at the beginning of the school year, but it's also the most popular time for schools to schedule Picture Day events. In fact, during the second week of September Lifetouch photographs the largest number of children annually. That equates to millions of kids grinning big for the camera to mark the milestone of another school year!

This national holiday is all about celebrating school photography and the tradition of capturing special moments for millions of families each year during the month of September.
